Game Privacy Notice
Last updated: 3 October 2026
- You can play without telling us who you are. There are no accounts.
- We ask for your email once before your first game, for game access and fairness. Pugdates emails are optional: you only get them if you tick the box or choose to join.
- Your score and the pugs you have met are saved on your own device, not on our servers.
- No ads, no third-party analytics and no tracking cookies.
Who we are
Gizmo’s Town Rescue is a CuppaPug game. CuppaPug is responsible for your information. The game was built, and is looked after, by Good Thinking on CuppaPug’s behalf.
Questions about privacy? Email bookings@cuppapug.com. CuppaPug’s main Privacy Policy covers the rest of CuppaPug, including café bookings.
Your email
We ask for your email in these places:
- Before your first game. We ask for your email once on each device. We use it for game access, to keep the game and its free coffee offer fair, and for service messages about the game (for example, an important change to these notices). This does not sign you up for pugdates: marketing emails only happen if you tick the box, or later choose to join.
- Join and show my code. When you rescue every pug, the free cappuccino code is for pugdates subscribers. If you are not on the list, the game asks if you would like to join. Tapping “Join and show my code” signs up the email you gave before your first game, and we record it as a fresh, separate opt-in with the date. If we do not have your email on this device, the game asks you to type it and tick the box.
- Get pugdates. Before or after a game you may see a small box to sign up for pugdates: news about rescue pugs, new arrivals and CuppaPug offers by email. You join only if you type your email and tick the box. The box is never ticked for you.
- Your free cappuccino code. When you unlock the coffee offer, the game shows your code on screen. Where we have switched on email delivery, you can also ask us to email the code to you. Asking for the code does not sign you up for pugdates unless you also tick the box.
What we keep: your email address, the date and time you signed up, where in the game you signed up (for example “results” or “coffee”), whether you ticked the pugdates box, and which version of this notice you saw. If you asked for your code by email, we also note the month we sent it, so we do not send it twice. We do not ask for your name, and we do not keep your IP address with your email.
Why: to give you access to the game and send occasional service messages about it (our legitimate interest in running a fair, bot-free game and offer); to send you pugdates, because you gave your consent by ticking the box or choosing to join; and to email your coffee code, because you asked us to. We do not sell your email or share it for anyone else’s marketing.
Where it is stored:
- On the game’s own server, hosted by Railway, in private storage that only CuppaPug’s owner can export.
- In CuppaPug’s contact list on Wix, which CuppaPug uses to send its emails, when that connection is switched on. Your contact is labelled “Gizmo game”. If you have unsubscribed from CuppaPug emails before, the game never signs you back up.
- If you ask for your code by email, the email is sent through our email delivery provider, Resend, when that is switched on.
How long: we keep your email until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. If you only asked for your code, we keep your address so we do not send it twice, and delete it when you ask.
Changing your mind: every pugdates email has an unsubscribe link. You can also email bookings@cuppapug.com to unsubscribe, see what we hold or have it deleted. Unsubscribing never affects your game or a code you have already unlocked.
The game’s sign-up form has a hidden field that helps us spot bots, and the server limits how many sign-ups can come from one connection in a short time. To do that, it briefly uses a scrambled version of your IP address in memory and does not store it.
When you open the game, Cloudflare Turnstile quietly checks that you are a person, not a bot. It usually needs nothing from you; occasionally it asks for one tap. Cloudflare processes technical details about your browser and connection to do this (see Cloudflare’s Turnstile privacy notice). If you pass, we set one small cookie, gtr_human, for 30 days so you are not checked again. It contains no personal details and is only used to protect sign-ups.
Saved on this device
To make the game work, it saves a few small things in your browser’s storage. They stay on your device and are not sent to us.
- Your best score and whether the sound is on or off.
- The pugs you have met (your grumble) and a copy of the public list of pugs up for adoption, so the game can load quickly and work offline.
- Whether you have seen the welcome screen, the tutorial and your first round, plus the time of day your last round started.
- Progress in little extras, like the garden story, and the month you unlocked the free coffee offer.
- Whether you have signed up for pugdates, or chosen “Not now”, so we do not keep asking. Your email address itself is not saved on your device.
- Whether you have seen or dismissed the “add to home screen” tip.
- A short note about whether the game currently needs sign-up, so it can start offline. It contains no personal details.
If you install the game or play it more than once, your browser also keeps a copy of the game files and pug photos so it can run offline.
gtr_human: the 30-day bot-check pass described above.gtr_player: set when you give your email before your first game. It links this browser to that email, so “Join and show my code” works with one tap and your email is never saved where the game itself can read it. It holds your email in encoded (not encrypted) form with a signature that stops it being changed, only our server can read it, and it lasts 400 days. It is not used for tracking or advertising.
There are no tracking or advertising cookies. CuppaPug staff using the private admin area also get a login cookie.
You can clear all of this at any time through your browser’s settings for this site. Doing so resets your score and your grumble. There is no cloud backup.
When you play online
The game is hosted by our hosting provider, Railway. Like any website, when your device connects it shares technical details such as your IP address and browser type. The game’s server uses these to deliver the game and to stop abuse, and does not keep a record of who played.
The pug profiles come from CuppaPug’s adoption service. The pug photos load directly from Wix’s image service (static.wixstatic.com), which sees the same kind of technical details when it sends a picture. The game’s fonts are hosted with the game itself.
Some of these providers may handle data outside the UK.
Sharing
Sharing is always your choice. Share pictures are made on your device and are not uploaded by the game. A share link contains the pugs or score you are sharing, nothing about you.
When you tap a share button, the game adds one to an anonymous running total: what kind of share it was, which app you picked and which screen you shared from. These totals tell us which sharing options people use. They contain nothing that could identify you.
If you share through WhatsApp, Facebook, X, Threads or email, that service’s own privacy policy applies.
Links to CuppaPug sites
Booking happens on CuppaPug’s booking site (book.cuppapug.com) and adoption on adopt.cuppapug.com. Links from the game include simple tags (such as “utm_source=gizmo_game”) so CuppaPug can see that a visit came from the game. Those sites have their own privacy information. The game never sees your booking or payment details.
Children
Gizmo’s Town Rescue is a family-friendly game. There are no accounts. The optional email sign-up is meant for adults planning a café visit; if you are under 13, please ask a grown-up to sign up instead.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR) you have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to how we use it, and to withdraw any consent you have given. If you signed up with your email, we can find, correct or delete it for you. Email bookings@cuppapug.com.
For pugdates we rely on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. For emailing your coffee code we rely on your request. Where we handle technical details, we rely on our legitimate interest in running a safe game that works.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If the game changes how it uses information, we will update this notice and the date at the top before the change happens.
